Galion
Company Name:
Galion LLC
Link: www.galionllc.com

Over the years, Galion's projectiles have been the medium caliber ordnance of choice for a number of the country's most successful weapons platforms including some of our most advanced fighter aircraft and helicopters. Currently, the projectiles produced by Galion are the primary medium caliber ordnance employed by the F-15, F-16, and F-18 fighter jets.

Based in Galion, Ohio, the company has over 80 employees. The company has produced more than 37 million projectiles for the US government and its allies. Galion is currently the sole outside manufacturer of certain projectiles produced by companies such as General Dynamics, SNC and Alliant TechSystems.

Galion's core focus is the engineering and manufacture of precision machined parts in sizes ranging from .050 inches in length to 6 inches in length. Galion also has the ability to meet production volumes ranging from the prototyping of a limited number of parts up to large production runs of more than 500,000 parts per month.

Hand-in-hand with the company's ability to design and produce parts of the highest quality, is Galion's ability to meet demanding delivery schedules. Many of the company's customers are running just-in-time operations.

Throughout Galion's long history, the company has been known for its outstanding quality, manufacturing flexibility, and ability to meet tight deadlines. Due to insufficient investment in manufacturing infrastructure by the previous owners, Galion's business began declining prior to the acquisition by Juno. Immediately following the investment, Galion and its existing management team, embarked upon the required capital expenditure program, and upgraded its equipment and facilities.

Company Name: CyberExtruder | top

www.cyberextruder.com

Founded in 1999, CyberExtruder is a software development company whose core technology enables the automatic conversion of a two dimensional ("2D") facial image (e.g. passport photo) to an accurate three dimensional ("3D") model of the subject's face or head. The process happens in less than one second. The technology was first commercialized for the entertainment industry by enabling the personalization of video games and messaging applications such as the creation of personalized talking heads for mobile devices.

As CyberExtruder's technology has evolved, and as its accuracy and processing speed have improved, it has become a critical enabling biometric technology for the security industry. By automatically creating a unique 3D facial model from a single 2D facial image, the technology not only enhances the accuracy of the underlying facial recognition ("FR") software, but also makes surveillance applications even possible.

CyberExtruder's original US patent has priority back to early 2000 and is being granted by countries around the world (e.g. Australia granted it in June 2005). A follow-up patent was filed with the US Patent Office in September 2004 that embodies additional uses and methods of the underlying technology. These patents effectively protect the automated production of 3D models from single images which is acknowledged to be a critical step in surveillance applications.

The company has begun work with Dr. Paul Ekman, the psychology professor who has become the world's most famous face reader. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Central Intelligence Agency and state and local police forces have turned to Dr. Ekman for help learning to read subtle emotional cues from the faces of potential assassins, terrorists and questionable visa applicants. Dr. Ekman's research tool is called FACS, or Facial Action Coding System, for deciphering which of the 43 muscles in the face are working at any given moment, even when an emotion is so fleeting that the person experiencing it may not be conscious of it.

CyberExtruder's core technology is an image processing software suite that enhances facial recognition. CyberExtruder's software delivers an enormous advantage to facial recognition vendors and end users who want to improve their facial recognition results by automatically converting 2D images into lifelike, 3D models of subjects. With their software, corrections can be made for images taken with harsh light or deep shadows, photos with stern expressions or smiles, even images with older/younger features to answer the questions: "Are you the person you claim to be?" "Are you on our watch list?" "Do you have security access?" This patent-pending technology for generating 3D morphable models can make the difference between a close match and an exact match.

From a single photograph, group of photos, or a network of surveillance cameras, CyberExtruder's software automatically produces high-quality 3D models which are then used to produce photos that are more recognizable by existing facial recognition systems. No user input is required to produce the final product images. It's all automatic.

The software offers the following benefits to users:

. Automation - It is the only automated, three-dimensional morphable-model process for creating quality 3D images. Using high-speed, proprietary technology, the software can automatically construct a full 3D model from a 2D photo, a non-front-facing image.

. Speed - Legacy databases (mug shots, passport photos, military and corporate photo galleries) can be batch processed and converted to 3D morphable models in less than one second per photo.

. Diagnosis Capability - The software automatically measures over 400 parameters present in the original photograph and can then determine why a set of photos failed to be recognized by the facial recognition system.

. Flexibility - A powerful rendering engine allows you to specify positioning, rotation, and lighting parameters to create a more meaningful likeness of a target subject. Once the 3D model has been created, you can view it from any angle or position.

. Usability - The software runs on a PC or laptop, using Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or XP, and requires no user intervention.

. Forensic Accuracy - The software produces multiple poses that are highly accurate. A unique geometry is generated for every person.

Company Name: Millivision Technologies  | top

Imagine seeing through most non-metallic materials including clothes, walls, fog and the ground beneath our feet, without the harmful effects of ionizing x-rays. Imagine having the ability to detect an individual concealing a weapon or explosives from a distance. Millivision has developed such a technology, has begun to produce its first products (a series of imagers), and has put itself in the forefront of this new technology.

An ordinary camera sees light reflected from, or naturally emitted by, objects. People and ordinary cameras cannot see millimeter wave emissions, but Millivision's imagers are able to transform images from reflected and naturally emitted millimeter waves into images visible to the human eye. Many materials are transparent or translucent at millimeter wave lengths (e.g., clothing, most building materials, and atmospheric conditions such as fog, snow, and smoke) - resulting in the ability of the Millivision technology to "see through" them.

Millivision has developed both the hardware and the software necessary to capture the millimeter waves, translate them to visual images, and display those images. Millivision is beginning to reap the benefits of over 15 years of extensive research and development. Millivision's technology is mature, and the timing is right for the Company to introduce its products that address the needs of homeland security.

L-3 communications (LLL) is collaborating with Millivision as a strategic partner for the development of multiple-threat contraband detection systems for the transportation market. L-3 also joined Juno as a co-investor in the recent acquisition of this technology.
